Welcome to MyReadingMapped

Remember how the book "Lord of the Rings" had a map that caught the interest of students worldwide and encouraged reading about history, adventure and science? And, then there was that map in Treasure Island. What is it about maps that make us want to read?

Here is your chance to digitally experience history by zooming in on the details in over 150 Google Map formatted documentaries on history and science. So, join me as we explore the world, and digitally walk where explorers of the past have traveled, locate sunken ships, view plane and train crash sites, roam ancient ruins, survey battlefields and forts, discover undersea phenomena, research environmental disasters, find dinosaur fossil sites, track earthquakes associated with plate tectonics, digitally climb the tallest mountains, investigate famous crime scenes and learn about the rise, fall, and migration of civilization due to climate change.

Create a homeschooling, self-organized and independent learning environment.

With the help of MyReadingMapped you can create your own custom learning environment. Learn what you want to learn when you want to learn it, and learn by self-experience. But, how do you experience history of the past? How do you experience science you cannot touch or see for yourself? If like me you are an autodidact (a self-taught person) or a polymath (a person of wide-ranging knowledge or learning) you have found a place to let your creative mind wander. So relax and enjoy the experience.

MyReadingMapped provides a way to digitally experience history and science by enabling you to zoom in on the details of ancient ruins, pyramids and remote places like the submarine features of plate tectonics.

Included is a select group of over 40 Explorer Google Maps, that are based on wide a selection of linked 100-year old, copyright-free, explorer eBooks and other reading material, that allow you to zoom in on the details of famous explorer expeditions. Each location plotted is cited with a quote, page reference, web link and/or other source. Those maps that are based on eBooks are indicated by this book symbol at the right, and you can read the book while viewing the map via the book link provided with each map.

In addition, the explorer maps also come with a Google Earth KML file that enables you to digitally walk these maps from location marker to location marker in 3D. Other KML files enable you to walk around ancient ruins, etc. in 3D. Other KML files enable you to see the location of a famous landscape painting in 3D, while viewing the painting of the scene at the same time, so that you can see how the painter interpreted the scene.

MyReadingMapped has no tests to take, no fees to pay, and no pressure to learn an established state curriculum within a given time frame. It is simply learning what you are interested in when it interests you. You may even find it fun to do. Enjoy.
