Interactive Map of the Sunken Ships of the Atlantic

Click here to speed up viewing the above map, it will take you to the original Google Map, complete with legend that will identify which ships can be seen in the water.

Wreck of the SS America, Canary Islands
Did you know there is a sunken Soviet Submarine in a US east-coast harbor?

In this six-part documentary, in the form of interactive maps, you can zoom in on where it and other sunken ships of the world rest on the bottom of the ocean.  Each location provides the actual wreck location based on published coordinates on Wikipedia, a Wikipedia link to a description of the ship's history and actions, and, if available, a picture of the ship. (See the list of other sunken ship maps below).

Those sunken ships included in the above Atlantic  map are the Andrea Doria,  the Bismarck, the Carpathia, the Graf Spee, HMS Hood, K-141 Kursk, K-219, the Lusitania, SS America,  Titanic, U-352, USS Monitor, USS Thresher, The Mary Rose (1545), the 16th century Cattlewater Wreck, the Doddington (East Indiaman, 1755)  and the scuttling of the German fleet.

Unfortunately, there are not so many of the sunken ships that actually have Known coordinates. The Wikipedia list I used contains a lot of ships (those indicated in red) with little or no information at all. Therefore, this group of sunken ships represents only those that can be found using the Wikipedia supplied coordinates.

Be sure to check out some interesting things found in these maps on sunken ships.

You should check back from time-to-time because I am always finding new ways to locate additional sunken ships, and adding them to these maps.
