In this documentary, in the form of an interactive map, you can zoom in on how Henry Morton Stanley found Dr. Livingstone; based on Stanley's book "How I found Livingstone." Thus, you can read Stanley's book online while you zoom in on locations of his daily activities. Such as the grassy bridge that Stanley crossed (shown below), or the areas where Stanley followed the ancient Arab ivory/slave trading routes vs. where he blazed his own trail through the wilderness. His book is an excellent example of journalistic writing involving native wars, sickness, slavery, big game hunting, egos and cultural differences. Written from Stanley's unique and somewhat distorted viewpoint, it makes for some very captivating reading.

The locations in this map are determined from Stanley's book: How I found Livingstone: Travels, Adventures and Discoveries in Central Africa. All the locations are based on Stanley's List of Camps, and each location is quoted from the proper page discussed in his book.

Check out Contradictions in Stanley finding Dr. Livingstone to read an interesting discussion about the route that Stanley took to avoid a native war near Tabora.

Stanley's Book, Page 380:

“This marsh as it appeared to us presented a breadth of some hundreds of yards, on which grew a close network of grass, with much decayed matter mixed up with it. In the centre of this, and underneath it, ran a broad, deep, and rapid stream. As the guides proceeded across, the men stole after them with cautious footsteps. As they arrived near the centre we began to see this unstable grassy bridge, so curiously provided by nature for us, move up and down in heavy languid undulations, like the swell of the sea after a storm.”
